This event explores the growing impact of climate change on human health and discusses decarbonization initiatives within the healthcare sector. Featuring presentations on the international framework “ATACH”—joined by Japan in 2024—the first part of the program invites experts from environmental and medical fields to examine the links between climate and health.
The session will also highlight current efforts and challenges in reducing greenhouse gas emissions throughout the healthcare value chain, including collaborative actions across government and industry.In the second half, high school students will share future-oriented proposals for building a society where life and health thrive. Their presentations aim to emphasize the importance of youth voices in shaping policy and promote intergenerational dialogue toward a sustainable future.

Lung health is a global challenge, with lung disease being the cause of more than 18 million deaths by 2021. Lung diseases include non-communicable diseases such as lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), pulmonary fibrosis and asthma, as well as infectious diseases such as pneumonia, influenza, COVID-19 and tuberculosis, which account for a major part of global deaths. Among these, lung cancer and COPD are the leading causes of death among lung diseases, and their early detection and treatment is becoming increasingly important for extending healthy life expectancy. In this forum, activities for lung health will be discussed from various perspectives, including the latest initiatives in lung cancer screening in Japan and abroad, the establishment of a comprehensive treatment system for lung cancer screening and early detection of lung diseases including COPD, and the expansion of evidence-based screening.
